Jennie Garth to write children’s books

March 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm Filed under Actor/Actress, And more, children, motherhood

No doubt mom to three Jennie Garth has read umpteen books to Luca, 12, Lola, 7, and Fiona, 3, her daughters with hottie hubby Peter Facinelli. But now instead of reading children’s books, she’ll be writing them!

At a Milk + Bookies even in L.A. on Sunday, Jennie told Us magazine, “I just signed a two-book deal to start my own children’s books,” the 37-year-old star told Us at a Milk + Bookies event in L.A. Sunday. “So I’m really excited about that!”

The books are set to hit bookshelves February 2011 and will target kids aged 3 to 8. Jennie wouldn’t reveal many details about the book’s topics “because we are still negotiating.”

Meanwhile she said, “We are really great parents, if I do say so myself! We really take it as a full-time commitment and job… We take it very seriously.”

Cate Blanchett calls her sons her “main priorities”

March 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm Filed under Actor/Actress, And more, Baby talk, family, motherhood

In a new interview with Times Online, Cate Blanchett, mom to Dashiell John, 8, Roman Robert, 5 1/2, and Ignatius “Iggy” Martin, 22 months, spoke about her life as a mom of three.

She said she does not feel that she has sacrificed anything in her career for her children, because she felt that she gained more than she gave up.

She explained, “I’ve had to say no to things because I was pregnant, but then I had a baby, so it didn’t seem like a sacrifice. I’m quite fatalistic — if something doesn’t happen, then something else will.”

She added that is not looking to do a movie anytime soon: “It used to be a question of ‘Who’s directing it?’ Now it’s, ‘How long is the shoot and where are they filming.’ Recently I said yes to something because filming is in the Easter holidays; The children need to be in school now but that’s okay [because] it’s good to be focusing on the theater,” she said.

Jennifer Garner on the luxury of a shower

March 1, 2010 at 12:45 pm Filed under Actor/Actress, And more, family, motherhood

Jennifer Garner, mom to Violet Anne, 4, and Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, 13 months, — her kids with hubby Ben Affleck — recently visited the Lopez Tonight and spoke about motherhood.

She revealed, as she has in the past, that showers don’t come all that often for her! “It doesn’t mean I’m not clean. I take care of what needs to be taken care of, but as far as taking a shower or putting on any mascara — no. That doesn’t happen,” she shared.

As for nap time? Jen says she doesn’t take one while her girls nap, stating, that’s your time to do something else.” And, for the most part, that something else means playing with the daughter who is not napping!

“You think, ‘I need to take a nap. I should take a nap.’ But you don’t. [And] you can do that with one, but with the second [child], when the one goes down the other one is like, ‘Great! I have you to myself! Let’s go! Dollhouse. Let’s go!’”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus calls guilt “a bitch”

February 26, 2010 at 9:00 am Filed under Actor/Actress, And more, children, motherhood

In the new March issue of Redbook magazine, on which she graces the cover, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, mom of Henry, 17, and Charles, 12, spoke about letting go of her mom guilt.

She talked about trying to balance family life and her career, which is a never-ending battle, but she said that letting go of the guilt has helped.

She admitted, When I was doing Seinfeld and my oldest son was a babe, I had a nursery set up at work. I would nurse him, then run out onto the set, and I always felt like, ‘Who am I, here?’”

She continued, “Guilt is a bitch. It’s so useless as an emotion, for me anyway. It clouds things. I’m not saying people shouldn’t feel guilty, but for me, it makes certain decision-making more difficult. It’s good for my kids to see me have artistic desires, work hard, and have success.”

She went on to say that as the night wore on they accidentally found themselves in a lesbian bar. She said, “I’m like, ‘Yes, victory!’ because everywhere we go, everyone loves Matthew … but we’re in a lesbian bar, now it’s my turn. That didn’t happen. He was turning lesbian women into straight women.”

Always feeling a “big guilt trip,” Nancy decided to leave Access Hollywood, though she called it the “toughest decision.”

But Nancy is having a great time — “Everything is fun again — the Disney princess movies and all,” she shared.

She added, “If you need to give up anything, it needs to be the other stuff because jobs will come and go, but your family will always be there. Just make sure that’s always your priority and everything else will fall in place.”

Kristi Yamaguchi realizes how precious life is since becoming a mom

February 19, 2010 at 2:00 pm Filed under And more, Athletes, children, family, motherhood

In a new interview with Working Mother magazine, professional figure skater and television personality Kristi Yamaguchi — mom to Keara Kiomi, 6, and Emma Yoshiko, 4, spoke about struggling to balance motherhood with her career.

She said, “I never thought I’d still be working this hard in my thirties. I still have an itch.”

But she admitted, “Sometimes I think I overextend myself because I’m traveling too much and am away from the kids. It’s a fine line to find that balance. These days I make business decisions based on whether something is worth my time away from my kids.”

She also revealed how motherhood has made her realize “how precious life is,” adding, “When I was younger, I was more adventurous … I felt invincible. [Now] I don’t want to get injured because then I can’t take care of my kids. Even getting on an airplane, I’m more conscious of … Like they say, once you have a child, your heart is forever outside your body. I totally understand that now.”
