Gabrielle Union was right in the middle of the ugliness between boyfriend Dwyane Wade and his estranged wife Siohvaughn Funches, but she refused to let the nastiness harm the two young boys who were involved.

Siohvaughn, who’s been separated from the Miami Heat star since 2007, filed a lawsuit against Gabrielle in 2010. In the suit, Siohvaughn alleged that the actress caused emotional distress to her children (Zaire, 10, and Zion, 4) when she “engaged in sexual foreplay” with their father in front of the boys.

The case was dismissed, but it severely damaged Gabrielle’s public image, who said she has stayed mum about the situation to protect the children. “Taking the high road sucks,” the Think Like A Man star, 39, told Omg!.
“The biggest lesson is that when there are children involved who can’t speak for themselves, no matter how tempted you are to just tell someone else’s truth … you just have to shut your mouth and make sure that they are protected at all times — even if you sacrifice yourself,” she told Omg!. “People will still believe what they want.”

Gabrielle said she feels good about her relationship with Dwyane, who – like her – knows what it’s like to be in the public eye. “We both understand the schedule and the sacrifice and the demand,” she shared. “He understands my appeal and I understand his.”

Gabrielle, who divorced NFL star Chris Howard in 2006, said she’s been in a number of relationships with men who were intimidated by her Hollywood career. “With [Dwyane], we don’t have those issues.”
