Giuliana Rancic still has hopes of carrying her own child
In a new interview with PEOPLE, Giuliana Rancic, who is expecting her first child with husband Bill Rancic via surrogate, admits that she’s still hopeful that she can carry her own child some time.
The E! correspondent, who has experienced miscarriage, infertility struggles and a bout with cancer, said, “Would I love to carry my own child? Absolutely,d . “But it’s not in the plan for the next several years.”
She continued, “The doctors are saying it looks like five years I’m going to be on medication and not be able to get pregnant. But five years puts me at 42, and a lot of people have kids at 42. So I’m definitely going to try again.”
She joked that Bill might not be on the same page in a few years: “Bill’s like, ‘How many kids are we talking about?’ I’m like, ‘As many as we can get!’ When you fight so hard for something, and want something so badly, you forget the planning for college costs, the struggle. You realize what a gift it is, so you want to do as much as you can to make it happen.”

Of seeing their baby for the first time via ultrasound, Giuliana gushed, “It was incredible. Even though we knew it was a positive pregnancy, we were still so nervous leading up to the ultrasound, wondering if the heartbeat’s not there, because that’s happened to us before. So hearing it was a huge milestone, and it just means everything. It was beyond what I thought it would be.”
Though she and Bill are keeping the sex of their baby on the way a secret, Giuliana admits it’s pretty tough.

She said, “Everyone’s trying to guess. My parents are convinced it’s a boy, because we’re Italian and it’s our first. Then my best friend is convinced it’s a girl. So it’s interesting to hear what everyone thinks and why. I’m not in that situation most women are where they can tell how I’m carrying, or if I’m nauseous. It’s like Vegas, black or red.”
She added, “Bill is having a tougher time than me.”

She also shared her anticipation of welcoming her baby, saying, “I picture in my mind how it’s going to happen when the baby’s born. It’s been in the works for so long, we’ve waited for this moment for so long. It gives me this overwhelming feeling of obvious happiness and joy.”
Giuliana and Bill have been through so much — we can’t wait for them to welcome this baby!
