Elton John: Father of the Year?
Sir Elton John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music and charitable services. He’s a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and has won six Grammys. And now the music legend is up for yet another award: England’s “Celebrity Dad of the Year.”
Sir Elton has been nominated with his long-time partner, David Furnish. With the help of a surrogate mother, the two welcomed son Zachary on Christmas day 2010.

The Celebrity Dad of the Year award honors “the celebrity dad who has impressed [the UK] by balancing a hectic public life with the demands of parenting.”
Who is Zachary’s biological father?
Elton wants to parent Zachary the way he was brought up. “I so value my own childhood now, and we want to give Zachary — as much as we possibly can — the same thing. A solid, old-fashioned childhood, if you like. I know it’ll be hard with my life, but we want him to have that same normality and for things in life to have real value. So we don’t intend to spoil him — we’re going to try to give him a fun, carefree time of innocence, freedom, love and stability.”
Young Zachary is already a world traveler
Other nominees for Celebrity Dad of the Year include David Beckham (who’s fourth child is on the way), Wayne Rooney and Gary Barlow. Votes can be cast online.
