Though six months out of the year, professional figure skater Michael Weiss is on the road with Smucker’s “Stars on Ice,” he gets to spend the other six months as a stay-at-home dad to his 10-year-old daughter Annie-Mae and his 9-year-old son Christopher. He reveals that his kids have not shown much interest in taking after dad in the skating department, but he’s okay with that.

I don’t necessarily want to them to do what I’m doing just because I did it,” he told the Times Union. Using his own parents as role  models he says, You have to find a balance as to when you’re pushing too hard.”

On a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, actress Reese Witherspoon talked about her most important role: that of mom to 9-year-old Ava Elizabeth and 5-year-old Deacon Reese.

She admits, “I say lots of mom things, all sorts of things I never thought I would say. Like, you know, I’m not your friend — I’m your mother.” She added, “It’s not nice sometimes to be a mom, you have to be really tough. It is a very fine line. You can’t cross over it. Otherwise, they might think they’re winning.”

Though Reese is an award-winning actress, not to mention beautiful and seemingly humble, her kids at times think of her as “a huge dork.” We think she’s amazing, and a great mom, too!

As a quick follow up to the news that Madonna filed adoption paperwork, we have since learned that officials have confirmed that the material mama is adopting a three-year-old girl, Mercy James, from Malawi.

Director of Child Welfare Services in Malawi, Penstone Kliembe told Usmagazine.com, “The adoption is going ahead. It has been at an advanced stage for some time.”

Not only is mode Helena Christensen absolutely gorgeous (and at 40 she just seems to shine), she is also an incredibly involved and doting mother. Cookie magazine’s April issue features Helena and her son, 9-year-old Mingus Lucien (who takes after mama in the good looks department), on the cover. In the article, the model mama reveals: [Mingus] is all that matters. He’s my best friend.”

Helena is passing along some important life lessons to her son - like that of charity work. She and Mingus are greatly involved in the fund-raising work they take part in together for the Chernobyl Children’s Projeect International, which provides help to still-suffering people in regions of Belarus and Ukraine.

Now that’s a wonderful cause and a positive influence to have on a young boy!

Last week we told you that Madonna was hinting at another adoption from Malawi, where her adopted son David Banda, 3, is from.

Well, this week an official at the Malawi welfare department has confirmed to the Associated Press that Madonna did indeed file adoption papers. Another source told the AP that she is going to be visiting the country this weekend and may even have her adoption case reviewed by a court there as soon as Monday. Apparently she wants to adopt a baby girl named Mercy, but she may face a roadblock - her recent divorce.

A senior official from Malawi’s Ministry of Women and Child Welfare Development said: “Our official policy is that we do not encourage our children to be sent into broken homes. Her relationships may negatively affect the adoption of Mercy.”

Madonnna’s rep, Liz Rosenberg, has not commented on this news.
