Nicole Richie explains the meaning of Harlow
Nicole Richie and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, welcomed their first child, a daughter, on January 11th. Richie recently spoke with People magazine on everything from why she named her daughter Harlow to how her life has changed.
On naming her daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden:
“I wanted a hippie name and he wanted a more Biblical name,” she says. Naming actress Jean Harlow and model Shalom Harlow as their inspiration, Madden adds that “Harlow’s a cool name because it feels like a classic name.”
On how parenthood has changed them:
Madden says it is “the best thing that’s ever happened to us. We have a very mellow life compared to two years ago, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Her first reaction upon seeing Harlow:
I cried right away. I was holding her, and it was something that was so much bigger than me. Now she looks a little more like Joel, but when she was born, it looked like Joel had nothing to do with it.”
