Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross shows off her double bundle of joy: fraternal twins Savannah and Eden. The twins are the first children for Cross, 45, and her husband Tom Mahoney. The actress shares her thoughts on motherhood, breastfeeding, in vitro and more in this month’s People magazine.
Cross on motherhood: “I wanted to be a member of that club so badly, and now I’m in and it’s so much better than I even imagined. I’ll tell you my routine – it’s really exciting. I feed, I burp, I change diapers, I pump. And then I have a tiny window of time to myself.”
What honeymoon? Cross decided her clock was ticking–their honeymoon could wait! The newlyweds married in June. “We did in vitro a week after we got married. We were supposed to go to Greece and Paris and have this fancy honeymoon, and I said, ‘Let’s stay put and see if we can’t give this baby a chance.’ ”
After discovering she had preeclampsia, a dangerous disorder resulting in high blood pressure, Cross had her twins 4 weeks early via cesarean. On Feb. 20, she welcomed 6 lbs. 7 oz. Savannah and 5 lbs. 10 oz. Eden. “I had over 12 lbs. of baby in me!”
Cross has learned how to breastfeed the twins (with the help of a nurse) and she says that “is a huge accomplishment!”
Are more kids in her future? “I’m probably done, but I certainly can see why people keep going – but for now she’s enjoying the moment: “I’m in heaven right now.”
