The congressman and the dictator’s daughter
Sounds like a cheesy novel, huh? Even so, the twosome is real — and they’re awaiting the arrival of a little dual citizen.
US Rep Jerry Weller from Illinois, and his wife, Zury Rios-Sosa — the daughter of a (rather controversial) former Guatemalan dictator, General Efrain Rios Montt — are expecting their first child in August. Weller, who is hoping to serve a seventh term representing the 11th District of Illinois, has recently been announcing the news along the campaign trail.
“We told our family last week, and Zury and I are very excited,” Weller told Ottawa-based The Times. “We’re not quite sure what to expect, as this is a first for both of us… But we are both very, very happy.”
